What's All The Racket??
Elmira College community service students do their part to create a space for students and community members in the Manse. There is a vision to transform the manse into a coffee shop that will offer a safe environment for Elmira College students and community members to "get away". College students also provide community service by helping with maintenance, paper work, Nursery, free guitar lessons to church youth, Scouting for Food, Turkey Dinner, and the Jubilee Soup sale.
Climbing To Meet Students
November 15th and 16th came with an unexpected surprise. Just a few days prior I was invited to go on an over night climbing trip hosted by Elmira College's Outing Club. I met up with 10 students (9 of which I had never met) Saturday evening to drive to Rock Ventures in Rochester. I had the privilege of riding with a diverse group of young women and since begun to build relationships with them and hope to get them connected to the life at North Church. We began our climbing around 9:00pm, after a thorough safety talk, and continued until 2:00am! We slept well on squishy mats until we were awakened at 7:30am to help clean up. After some hot coffee and a sluggish breakfast, we were off again - returning to Elmira and our routine lives. Hopefully seeds have been planted and routines will be interrupted again and again until they are reborn.
